About the Project
Our goal is to establish a public record of important objects of jewelry and beads . . . and to share them with the world. This project represents a worldwide survey arranged chronologically from 100,000 BC to the present.
Each digital image is accompanied with a caption, identifying the date, culture, design, techniques, materials, provenance, and artist when known. Commentary by noted specialists in the field is shared, along with scholarly footnotes and original sources. Periodically more images & text will be added. Please follow our updates.
This is a non-profit, educational project designed to make unique contributions to the preservation and celebration of world heritage. We hope this new website helps to network specialists, scholars, curators, collectors, students, and other interested individuals, organizations, institutions and museums.
